Update from Chrissy & Sue Lukanga

back in MozambiqueWarm greetings from Pemba the provincial capital of Cabo-Delgado, in the far north east of Mozambique.

We took time off in December to be with our family and the church in Zambia and we came back on the 13.02.15. It has been very difficult in Mozambique in the first month of the year of 2015. With torrential rains and floods in this part of the country washing away bridges, roads, homes and sad enough is the loss of lives and then huge problems of power loss for almost a month plus now.

Recent Events

The Church

newly marriedWe were very excited to find the church intact and doing very well even in our absence, we commend the men and women in leadership, even as we continue to train and restructure the church leadership.

On 22nd February it was very encouraging to see the elderly couple in the photo realizing that there is a Godly way of marrying. In an environment where people only know of cohabiting - just meet and pick and begin to live together.

On 1st March we held a Church Celebration service. The aim of this service was evangelism of our town as we had invited a good number of people to celebrate with us and we intend to hold similar meetings from time to time.

Pemba English Christian School (PECS)

We have been given a verbal go ahead for the construction of the school by the authority, however I feel it would be wise to wait for an official authorization which could be ready in a few weeks time.

We are excited to announce that Foundation for Cross Cultural Education (FCE) in Zambia are in support of the idea of this kind of school and have agreed to partner with us in training teachers for us and paying half of the cost for the students. We then have to raise the other half together with the student. This is very exciting to us.

Personal

great timeSonia is with us here in Mozambique learning the language and gradually getting involved in the church activities, especially with the youth.

Ikumba is at Foundation for Cross Cultural Education (FCE) which is a cross cultural mission training school in Zambia. He is hoping to do the full four year course if all goes well. FCE is doing a commendable work as they incorporate various trades in their training to help the would be missionary know where to begin and how to enter the country of their calling.

Katendi and Ilunga are still at Amano School. They seem to be doing very well at school and we are grateful to Amano School for the work they are doing. We are also thankful to the Kalima family who are taking care of them. Listening to Katendi and Ilunga, they are really aiming very high for their lives.

Luwi is in second grade. The challenge for Luwi is his immigration document as it expires in April and we need God’s urgent intervention and provision.

Plans for the Future

On the 5th April we are intending to baptise about eight candidates who have given their lives to the Lord.

On the 12th April two of our true children in the Lord who are part of the founding members will be marrying. These are Angelina Mario Tiago and John loureÇo Calisto.

Prayer and Praise Points

1) For the upcoming church activities
2) Urgent provision for Luwi’s immigration documents which expire in the first week of April
3) Resources for the school construction
4) Right people for teachers training with FCE in Zambia

With all our love
