Email Update Received from Dibwe and Astrid

Greetings in the name of our precious Lord Jesus Christ. We are doing well with our family, God is protecting us during this period of COVID-19 in the world.

Recent Events

Children

The project is going well since you started financially assisting us. The children eat regularly and are doing much better than before. We bless the Almighty God who has touched you to assist these vulnerable children. We are noticing a lot of changes in the children in their life and their health.

We started with 50 children but now have 120 in the program.

COVID-19

We have a serious problem with the COVID-19 situation. Initially we were not allowed by the authorities to gather the children together for their food so we started going house to house giving food to the chidren which was a huge task.

However, we bless God, we are now able to gather the children and they are eating together.

Mama Lydia

Mama Lydia is still here with us and we regularly assist her. We initially gave her some money but when we visited her, we noticed that her children's health was very bad. She said that she lost the money when she bought chicks to breed with the view to generating an income but the chicks have all died. She lost money for one term. We have now decided to give food instead of giving her money.

She has been selling at the market but she is not able to manage money. We try every time to help her and Astrid looks out for her.

Plans for the Future

We want to continue with the program to help the vulnerable children next year as they suffer a lot.

Current Issues and Challenges

When we increased the number of children being fed obviously the amount of food being bought with the funds sent had to be spread amongst more children. We looked to reduce the number of days we gave food to them but that was more difficult for the children. We have managed to add local contributions to allow us to resolve this situation.

BHW Comments

Further to receiving this update the BHW Executive has approved increasing the budget here to US$5,500/year.
