Update from Pradeep Kumar

It is wonderful to serve the Lord and it is a great opportunity to witness the Lord and His Kingdom in all these ways. We are so glad and happy that the Lord is helping us to continue carry on witnessing for Him not only through our preaching but also through our helping hands to society.

Self Income Generating Plans

We have started two shops:

Mr Arjun started a clothes and stationery shop. It is giving him great support for his family and his ministry. With our support he has initiated a shop alongside his home and it has become the center of everything that is happening for his family.

Mr Naizal has started a chicken meat shop. He is selling 15 kg of meat every day. It has become a great support for his family and his newborn child. The shop is giving extra income to his family and he is now able to take care of his baby girl without any trouble and tension.  He is so happy with his shop and wants to grow and increase more.

Self Income Generating Initiatives

Mr Chirag who is from Mungpoo has started a clothing merchandise.  We have invested Rs. 25,000 (US$370) as an initial investment to this initiative. He, along with four church youths who are unemployed, were willing to start a clothing business. They go to Nepal to buy the clothes which they can buy at a cheaper rate and come back to Mungpoo and sell them. They are planning to do it within the church initially which will make it easier to begin with and then are planning to move to the town shop.

Mrs Ranjitha is a housewife and does not do any job other than helping in some homes with cleaning and doing dishes as well as cooking. She wanted to be self-sufficient and help her family and she wanted to do something for herself and to help her husband. We have encouraged her and she started an organic natural cosmetic business. She will take orders for the products and bring the products from the wholesale shop and give to the people. She gets a percentage as commission for the work. She is earning and has started giving a small amount as a tithe to the church also.  It is great to see that she can do this and earn a living by herself.

Naya Bihani Knitting Centre

Our Knitting Centre is going on well and presently 8 girls are doing their regular training there. Mrs Sudha is doing a great work and she is training these many sisters and helping them to learn a profession. The centre at Darjeeling will continue for two more months as we will be doing the training only for five months - one batch will be for five months. We have trained 33 girls so far and we are glad most of them are able to earn a living by the training they have received through Naya Bihani Knitting Centre.  The present centre will be supported only for the next two months and then will be stopped as we will complete the current batch by then.

Glow Beauty Parlour has become a blessing to many young women who are educated but jobless. Sister Roshani is doing a fantastic job and she is helping these girls to learn, earn and become self-supportive. 20 girls have been trained so far at our center and we are so glad and honored to help these girls to learn a profession. We have completed two batches and we have decided the Glow Beauty Parlour will be self-sufficient and self-supportive now.  We are now letting the teacher (Mrs Roshani) run the training by herself and raise the income for her and for running the facility by promoting our center for parlour jobs also.  By taking beauty parlour jobs she can be financially supported and she will be able to support her family and her husband's ministry in a great way, as well as being able to train a handful of girls along with it.

We have made it mandatory that a handful of girls are to be trained and given the opportunity to learn a profession. The center will function as Glow Beauty Parlour and it will be under Naya Bihani Charitable Trust. We are glad with the way we have taken the decision to continue Glow Beauty Parlour in a way that is self-sufficient and self-supportive.

Ideas for the Future

There is a new plan we have come up with which we all feel is the right thing to do and I have been studying and planning as well as preparing the layout for this particular plan for Naya Bihani. It is installing a rice mill in Dimapur, Nagaland. There is a great need for a mill because in the Dimapur villages everyone depends on rice farming and rice consuming too. Everyone has a rice field and a business along this line could help a lot of families. What we are planning is to initiate a rice mill.  It will clean and polish the grain to rice.  I have researched a lot and came to a right plan.

We need to buy a rice huller machine, a 10 HP diesel motor and 1 belt - that is all. This would cost Rs. 44,500 (US$660). The cost of the construction and payment to the mason means all together it will be Rs. 50,000 (US$760) for a unit to be installed. With this unit we will be able to give a self-supporting initiative to two families at least and this could help a family for a long time.  We currently have a balance of Rs. 44,000 and we can add some more money and easily set up a unit for rice cleaning. It does not need electricity but runs with diesel which is easy to manage in Dimapur.

We are looking to see if it is better to get these items from Dimapur or Siliguri but once we make the final decision to go ahead we should be able to have the mill up and running within two to three months.
