Report from BHW Zambia Partnership Facilitators Following Visit

preparing fieldKey People: David Power, Alan Mfwana, Edwin Chama

We met with David and Liz Power at their home in Kabwe but didn't actually visit the GLO base in Ndola.

Recent Events

Activities

GLO is still running accredited theological training courses, aimed to meet government regulations that require churches to have trained qualified pastors. The courses originate from Perth Bible College in Australia headed by David Smith. These courses are then revised to fit the African and Zambian culture and context.

They currently run:
• Leadership courses (4 one-week blocks per year then distance learning)
• Church based training
• GAP year course
• Advanced Leadership course

Agriculture

preparing fieldBright Hope World helps to fund the agricultural element of GLO. This involves demonstrating and training people from the surrounding community.

We were disappointed to hear that since last year when they had the vision to add Foundations for Farming courses to the church extension programme, that this has not happened.

They requested to run two courses for farmers this year and funds to help the demonstration plot re-establish. Bright Hope World has agreed to fund one training course for 50 people, and some funds to allow the agriculture team to continue to follow up the farmers throughout the year.

We decided that providing further funding for the demonstration plot was not a good idea as what they have been given already should be enough to have established a self-sustaining garden.

There is a possibility that another staff member may be sent to the Foundation for Farming centre in Mikushi for training. GLO are currently in discussions about this. Honest is a young guy who did the GAP year programme and has been involved in many areas of GLO including the agriculture programmes.

Comments

We will continue to fund the agricultural worker and look at one off proposals for trainings and demonstrations.
