Report from Patience Orphans on Women's Discipleship Course

First and foremost, I would like to thank Bright Hope World for sponsoring our program. This program has helped women in our community to learn things they did not know in their lives. Their mindsets have been changed and therefore their ways of living in their various homes and in the entire community has changed as well.

We started our program this year 26th January 2023.

We have our guidance book which we follow whenever we are teaching our learners. The book is called, 'KNOWING AND DOING'. It is a Christian Belief and Practice Book and has 20 chapters.

The following are the books contents:
1. The Bible
2. God
3. Creation
4. Angels, satan and demons
5. Sin and the fall of man
6. The good news
7. What happened to me when I trusted Christ
8. Believers baptism
9. The church
10. Members in the local church
11. Spiritual gifts
12. Leadership in the local church
13. Holiness
14. Our daily quiet time with God
15. Guidance: How you can know God's plan for your life
16. Temptation, failure and restoration
17. The family
18. The death and judgement of unbelievers
19. The death of Christians and the return of Christ
20. The Christian eternal home

We teach two chapters in a month unless the content is long, then we teach one chapter twice in a month. For example, the chapter "The Bible" is 8 pages long and we therefore had to teach it twice in order for the people to understand it fully.

Our daily program during the learning day/days is as follows:
- At 08:00 hours breakfast is served to all the learners
- We then start our classes at 09:00 hours
- At 11:00 hours we go for a tea break
- At 11:30 hours we go back for classes
- At 12:30 hours we break of for lunch
- At 14:00 hours we go back for classes
- At 16:30 hours classes are over

Every woman who is in the discipleship class has a copy of the book and they also have exercise books and pens for use during learning.

Our first class will be completing the course this year in December and we are looking to have classes next year as well.

Personal Stories

Comments from participants:

Mrs Idah Kabiki
Idah said she is so thankful to Bright Hope World for sponsoring this program. She said she did not know how to handle her own family; she did not know her duty as a wife in her marriage and she did not know her duty as a mother to her children. But after we taught them about family and God's plan for marriage in our series of learning, which had lessons such as, Duty of the wife, Parents and Children, Mother's duty to her Children etc, she mentioned that it really helped her change how she managed her home.

She is now submitting to her husband according to the word of God. Ephesians 5:22-25 is her daily verse. She has learned that God's first gift to every child is a mother. And since the mother is a child's first teacher, she has taken a step and has started teaching her children about Jesus and to grow in the fear of God. She said her family is now united again and this subject has really brought happiness and joy to her home and marriage. She has learnt to love her children and she is ready to teach and encourage other women who have complications in their homes and marriages how to handle them better.

Brenda Nkonde
Brenda said she is so thankful to Bright Hope World for sponsoring this program that helped her develop a love for reading her Bible. When we were teaching about the Bible, she said she was so encouraged because she did not know how and when to read the Bible and when to pray. She is so happy because after the lessons we gave she is now able to read the Bible.

She is also now able to pray, teach and encourage her family and friends and even the church at large.

Emmy Makofi
Emmy said she is so thankful for the program that helped her come to the knowledge of the saving faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. She is now getting to know God more from the day she got saved. She said her life before was a life full of drinking, prostitution and everything contrary to God's word. But after we shared a lesson with them about the good news in the chapter titled "What must I do to be saved" she said she was so touched that immediately she decided to go to church and that is where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal saviour. She is now living a new life, she can pray, read the Bible every day and tell others about Jesus.

Mrs Janifer Kabunda
Janifer said she is so thankful because this program has helped her change and improve her leadership skills which are beneficial to her local church. She said so during a lesson when we were talking about leadership in the church. When we learnt about the character of an elder in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 it really helped her understand how to handle her duty as the chair lady at her local church. She was handling things her own way before but now that she learnt the biblical way, she has been applying the principles and is now a good leader in her church.

It also helped her to be a good wife to her husband and a good mother to her children. She said she will help and encourage other women who are leaders in their church to carry out their leadership role in the church and in their homes the biblical way.

Ideas for the Future

We would like to run these classes again next year.
