Update from Chaba Christian Care Group

First of all, I thank God who has made it possible for BHW to be our partners for a long time and we really appreciate that. I am very grateful to have an opportunity of writing a report on what happened last year, 2025. 

Recent Events

We had the following programs:
- Farming training
- Farming seminar
- Rice farming
- Maize farming
- Soya beans farming

Lot of thanks to BHW once more for the support they gave us to attend the farming training program in Mukushi. The training went well and we achieved a lot of skills and knowledge. (Photo is of Amos receiving his training certificate at FFF training centre in Mikushi.) 

Farming Seminar

I am very happy to report that we had a seminar, and million thanks once more to BHW who made it possible to have the seminar be a reality. 

We trained 160 people in cassava growing; 75 in rice; 50 in maize; 40 in soyabeans. We also invited the maize and rice farmers for a refresher seminar for one day. Just a few weeks ago I went around to check how the farming is progressing. I am happy because most of the fields are doing well.

rice fieldThrough the good look of the fields of our farmers, many more want to get involved in the program. We are hoping for the number of farmers to be increased this year. 

Loans Programme

Current loan program totals:
Maize farmers:
91 farmers (6 more added in 2025)
Loan amount k500

Rice farmers:
118 farmers (5 added in 2025)
Loan amount k200

Soyabean farmers: 
32 farmers (2 added in 2025)
Loan amount k1,000

These loans are to be repaid in June/July 2026 at harvest. 

 

Ideas for the Future

Seminar costs: k40,000 (US$2,100). With this amount in place, we intend to train:
- 300 people in cassava
- 85 in rice
- 60 in maize
- 40 in soyabeans farmers
- and all the old farmers for refresher and review seminar.

We would also talk about the outstanding loans and hear from them how they intend to pay back their loans.

We are also asking if you can fund us with some money to give loans to new farmers, which is;
• For maize we may increase 10 people and give them k500 each and cost k5,000.
• For soyabeans 10 people and give them k500 each and cost k5,000
• For rice farmers 10 people and give them k500 each and cost k5,000.
In total it is k15,000 (US$785)

BHW Zambia Partnership Facilitator Comments

I am recommending that we agree to the farming training - k40,000 (US$2,100).

For the loans, I think we wait to assess the paying back of the current loans that are outstanding, which they will tell us in July / August, before we decide whether to send any further funds for this.
