Recent Events

Fishing Ban

making a real difference Last year the fishing ban imposed in the areas they work combined with poor crops meant there were very serious food issues. They are a fishing area, so this hit them particularly hard.

The team brought in a lot of food and provided it to the community over a six month period until the fishing ban was lifted.

This work has resulted in huge growth at the centre as the local community has been extremely impressed at the assistance that has been provided and the heart of the people. Some senior government officials came to faith as a result.

The leader at the centre is particularly good at discipleship and this is aiding growth.

Foundations for Farming

new skills They have recently sent 10 couples to do Foundations for Farming training. These couples are implementing what they learnt well and growing crops successfully on land bought for the purpose. They are growing cassava and maize.

They are also successfully training others in FFF and have done several training sessions. The trainees have been provided with basic tools for growing crops as part of the training.

Unrest

Prior to the war in the north, they were sending Koti missionaries to reach the Mwani people, who were not particularly responsive. However, because of the war these people are now refugees and have been far more receptive to the Gospel.

The war is still going on and the north is very instable.

Activities

Schools finally restarted in about August. The madrassas continued to run during lockdown albeit in a reduced capacity but have now fully restarted.

The madrassas are well regarded by the government.

They have also continued to provide radio ministry in Koti 6 days a week.

The bible has now been translated into Koti and is being provided at no cost to the Koti people. Many cannot yet read, but there are usually some in a community that can.

Ideas for the Future

They are very keen to build a football academy near their centre and are also looking to build another centre across the road to provide space for small businesses to operate, separate from the main centre.

They are potentially interested in starting a school or tutoring programme.

2) For the 10 couples who have been trained in Foundations for Farming - that they will be able to continue training others and see a big improvement in the crops grown
