Report from Segadores on Heirs of Grace

The Heirs of Grace ministry aims to protect, guide and ensure the integral development of the children of missionaries up to the age of 18.

Children of the Missionaries

Challenges in the Jungle

Our missionaries serve deep in the Peruvian jungle; isolated areas without roads, electricity or telephone signal.

Access to food or medical care requires hours of travel by river, under the scorching sun or torrential rains. Our children grow up in this complex environment, facing a shortage of amenities and the risk of endemic diseases such as malaria and UTA.

Accompanying parents in preaching exposes families to great sacrifices but strengthens their vocation for service. Despite the long and gruelling canoe journeys down the rivers of the Amazon, the commitment to the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of each child remains unwavering. They learn from an early age the value of resilience and the deep meaning of bringing hope to where it is needed most. 

Third Culture Children

The missionary families of Segadores travel between different ethnic groups (such as the Asheninca) to support each other in the work. For the children, these meetings are a source of immense joy. By sharing a common cultural heritage and living immersed across multiple cultures, unbreakable bonds are forged. As "third culture children," they deeply treasure these moments with those who understand their unique and beautiful lifestyle. 

The life of families like the Nagy family is a truly cross-cultural experience. Children adapt and are wonderfully enriched by the environment. They bathe in the rivers, share the delicious local fruits that are given to them and learn from the native children about the animals of the forest and the customs of the ethnic group. They integrate with an admirable love and respect for the community that welcomes them.

The Joy of Brotherhood

Thanks to your generous annual contribution, we are able to organize spaces where these little heroes can simply be children. The smiles of our children reflect the hope and genuine love they receive from brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. Seeing them enjoy being together, play, and support each other reminds us that the effort and isolation are worth it when they are surrounded by the care of the global church.

Our Spiritual Sustenance

Prayer is the absolute foundation that sustains our families. In the image, Deicy leads the children of the missionaries in prayer in Lima, uniting hearts. We proactively encourage the growth of your faith.

Children like Dominic invite other children to their home in the evenings to review Sunday Bible teachings. It is a joy to see them grow up loving the Word of God.

The Cost of the Call - Bonds and Farewells

Cross-cultural ministry demands great sacrifices. Farewells among children are moments of deep sadness and tears. The bonds they forge in the vastness of the jungle are intense and sincere. Geographical distance becomes an enormous emotional challenge, which we face by constantly supporting them with love, understanding and pastoral accompaniment.

Growing Integrally

Education: They study bravely at home or in the tribe. Sometimes the light is scarce because the solar panels fail, but they persevere. Young people like Filip Tello study high school simultaneously with Biblical Theology.

Talents: We encourage their artistic gifts. Girls like Devora Acatrinei and Briana Tello dedicate their time to learning musical instruments to praise God and bless their community.

Service: Children are not spectators; they are an active part of the ministry. They compassionately serve the elderly and widows in the dining room and by fully integrating.

School Supplies: Thanks to your consistent offerings, we are able to provide the necessary school supplies for each child to continue their education with dignity, overcoming the enormous logistical and economic limitations of living in the deep Amazon.

Christmas Gifts: The Christmas gifts that were financed with your help are not only a blessing, but they allow you to show the little ones that their lives are valuable.

Birthday Gifts: Birthdays are special as because of you, these kids can see the generosity of our God

Prayer Points

1) Divine Protection and Health: Pray fervently for the physical health of the children, so that God will be their protective shield against all endemic diseases of the area (malaria, typhoid, pneumonia).

2) Wisdom in Adolescence: Pray for our teens. May God grant them grace and peace to cope with the complex changes of their age, adapting to the challenges of the tribe.

3) Spiritual Steadfastness: Pray for the heart and spiritual life of every child and youth, that their roots in Christ will be strengthened and they will stand firm in their faith in the face of any adversity.
