Sewing Programme Assessment Report

Village #247 G.B.

Course

new skillsThe sewing course started in June 2025 and ended in the second week of January 2026. Classes were five days a week Monday to Friday and two hours each class.

20 students were graduated with sewing machines and a certificate of completion. 18 out of 20 are from Christian houses and two are from Muslim houses.

The course was successful because 20 students were at the start and 20 finished. They had time to practice their skill. Most girls from this village are between the age of 16 to 28 with almost no education but this course enables them to learn skills from which they can earn an income.

Comments

very gratefulFrom the teacher: Rimsha
This course was longer than before, but I taught more and focused on other aspects of sewing. After sewing clothes, I made students practice sewing handicraft designs on paper and towels. Overall, the students were good and practiced well. They were on time almost every day and I had fun teaching them.

From students:
Sheeza: I have never been to school, this was my first time in a class and I enjoyed it.
Areeba: I enjoyed it because I used to work a lot of hours and because of class I came here and made friends.
Maria: I always enjoyed learning, but I couldn't study. I will be married soon so I'm grateful I did learn here.

Personal Stories

special timeSheeza: She is 33 years old. She is not married but takes care of her family, five sisters and parents. She was working as a maid in a Muslim family but now wants to start sewing clothes at home or join a sewing factory.

Areeba: She is 24 years old. She is married and has four kids. Her husband works in a brick kiln, and she is also working with him. However, she desires to pay their family debt and start working for herself.

Maria: She is 19 years old. She is not married but her father is paralyzed and she is working in the brick kilns because she took a loan for his treatment. She wants to start working in a factory.

Follow Up Plan

This was our second sewing course in the village 247 G.B. This year we will not run a third sewing course, but Eliza has established a regular women's prayer meeting in which all the students gather at the teacher's house and have fellowship.

Village #192 J.B.

Course

new skillsThe course started in June 2025 and was completed in the second week of January 2026. Classes were held five days a week from Monday to Fridays for 1 hour 30 mins.

17 students graduated with a sewing machine and certificates of completion. 15 students are from Christian houses and two from Muslim houses. The majority of women in the village are working for brick kilns. They have loans to repay and cannot send their children to school.

With this new skill, they want to improve life and provide for their families. We were able to give them skills, and machines to carry out what they desire.

Comments

special dayFrom the teacher: Samera
I had a wonderful time teaching, and I am glad I was able to also set a Christian example in front of Muslim students because Christians have a bad reputation in this area. Overall, the sewing course went well, I was able to finish my curriculum and I also had a positive response from students. I am grateful that you started this year in our village and girls could learn a skill that will help them.

From students:
Rida: I really liked how the teacher taught us. She explained multiple times, I was not able to learn fast but after her help I was able to learn and finish.
Nasreen: It was hard for me to focus in sewing course but I am happy I could finish and have my own machine.
Kirna: I have enjoyed my time with our class. I like how we already started with prayer and teacher gave us responsibilities in class.

Personal Stories

new skillsRida: She is 26 years old, married and has three children. She is working in a brick kiln to provide for her family, and she is a single parent. She is not aware of her husband's whereabouts. She is struggling to support her family and was only able to learn because her sister came to support her work in the brick kiln.

Nasreen: She is 31 years old, married and has two children. She works in wheat fields and brick kilns with her family. She was raised in a brick kiln and married to her husband who was also raised in brick kiln. She wants to leave this life in the brick kilns and change that for her children.

Kirna: She is 19 years old and unmarried. She was working as a maid in three houses but left one house to learn sewing skills. She has to support her family and wants to save for her marriage.

Follow Up Plan

We will pause before starting another sewing centre in this village because we have enough students in the village. However, for follow up, we will visit them and they will continue to have prayer meetings with the teacher.

Village #253

Course

new skillsThe sewing course started in June 2025 and ended in the second week of January 2026. Classes were 5 days a week Monday to Friday and two hours each class.

18 students graduated with sewing machines and certificates of completion. 17 out of 18 are from Christian houses and one was from a Muslim house.

This was our first time starting a sewing course in this village. We chose this village because there is a Christian community but not a church to which people can go. Our goal was to unite them and give a place to not only learn new skills but have a place where they can meet for fellowship.

special dayFrom the teacher: Rukhsana
This course was very good; I was able to finish and even teach more than I planned. We always started with prayer in our class.

From students:
Areeba: It was really nice experience, I never attended school, but it was good thing I could learn this without knowing how to write.
Rifata: I am so glad my family allowed me to attend this course. Now I can sew my own clothes and for my family.
Neha: I prayed so I could be part of this course, and I am happy that I could finish it.

Personal Stories

Areeba: She is 23 years old. She is the only one in her family that earns for her family. They are two sisters and parents. Her parents do not work because they are unwell. She dreams to have her own shop and clothes which she sells.

special dayRifata: She is 35 years old and has five children. Her husband works as a security guard in a factory. She works as a maid in three houses and wants to support her children's education. She wanted to learn these skills because she wants to earn extra from sewing clothes for her family.

Neha: She is 27 years old, married and has six kids to take care of. Her husband had two children before their marriage from his first wife. Their financial condition is not good. They owe a lot of money to brick kilns and they are working to pay them off. Neha wants to leave her current work and find a job in a clothing store.

Follow Up Plan

For follow up with the students we have organized weekly meetings with their teacher who will report directly to Eliza regarding their progress, and we intend to visit them on our next trip. However, there is no plan to start the sewing course again with them next term.
