History Of Partnership

Sharon Kunda is a Zambian and went to Mozambique as a missionary in 2002. At that time she was working in Quissanga, a very remote town in Northern Mozambique.  She was working with the Reformed Church of Mozambique amongst the indigenous African women.

However in late 2008 Sharon shifted to Mocimboa da Praia to join a team of 11 individuals committed to reaching out to the Muslim people in that area.  Currently their outreach efforts are based at the Tumaini Community Centre which is located in a purely Mwani (Muslim) area of the town.  Sharon is involved in the pre-school they run there as well as teaching English to the students at the centre.  She is also very involved in the women's group and organises seminars for them as well as being involved in her local church, The Pentecostal Church of Mocimboa.

We have been supporting her since 2004 as the Zambian church she is from is not able to fully assist her.

Beneficiaries

Sharon is the primary beneficiary although her children and those she works with benefit indirectly.

What We Like About The Partnership

There is a lot to like about this partnership. Sharon is very hard working and at the same time very relational. This is absolutely required in this situation as the whole work is based on friendships. We are encouraged by the fact that she is part of a very committed team who have a real passion to reach out to the Mwani and excited about the potential of this team approach.  We feel Sharon has a lot of offer, coming from an African perspective.

Leadership Profile

Sharon is a widow with five children. She is from Zambia.  Her training was at a Bible school in Ndola and while there she met another Zambian family who were going to Mozambique to be missionaries. Sharon went for a visit and decided to return to work with them. She has been in Mozambique ever since. Her children were just teenagers when she went. She comes back to Zambia for a couple of months each year to make sure they are going to school and doing well.

The team she is working with are very multi-national with an American woman (Jennifer Straw), a Brazilian woman (Ana Elisa), a Canadian gentleman (Mark Stabell), a couple from the UK (Tim and Bron Heaton), a couple from Kenya (Patrick and Violet Nabwera) and a couple from the USA (Steve and Sharon Entwistle).

Vision And Annual Strategy

The vision of the team is to see local churches with a passion to reach out to the Mwani (Muslims) and to see a planted church of Mwani believers who are capable of growing and reaching others for Christ without dependence on foreigners.

Annual Budget

The annual budget to support Sharon is $US2,640. This relates to $US200 per month and is sent every three months. This support goes towards Sharon visiting her children in Zambia and helps pay their school fees.  This partnership is currently financially supported by Bright Hope for Tomorrow in Canada.
