Support of Vilvanio and Lucimara Pereira

Evangelism / Church Planting,
Training / Education

($0 - $2,999)

Partnership Overview

In late January 2008 Vilvanio and Lucimara moved from Sao Paulo where they were working with ABBA, a half-way house for street children, to work in and pastor a church in the region of Bahia.  They are now working in a small city called Abaira in the Diamond Cap which has approximately 7000 inhabitants.

Vilvanio had always wanted to work with a church and had considered continuing on at Castro Alves in Sau Paulo, the small church they had established in a slum area there but did not have peace about remaining there.  After some time they received an invitation to pastor a church in Bahia and after meeting with the church they decided to move and commence working there in February 2008.

Vilvanio pastors the one main church and also three smaller congregations - daughter churches.

History of Partnership

Bright Hope World has been partnering with Vilvanio and Lucimara since 2004. They were suggested to Bright Hope by Ruth Oliveira, a New Zealand missionary working with Action International.  Initially we provided financial support for them while they worked with an organisation called ABBA, a group that ran three half-way houses for street kids in Sao Paulo. ABBA provided a place to live, food and education as well as reaching the children with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

When Vilvanio and Lucimara felt God calling them to a new ministry in Abaira Bright Hope World decided to continue supporting them as they seek to build up and encourage the church in this area.

Beneficiaries

Directly it is Vilvanio and Lucimara who benefit from this support.  They are financially supported by the church where they work and live in the pastoral house that belongs to the church but the church is not wealthy and the money is only sufficient to pay their basic needs.  They lack things for the children they work with - storage units, tables, paper, glass for windows etc.  The cost of living is high there because they are far from any large cities.

What We Like About The Partnership

These are key people. The purpose of this partnership is to assist them with additional expenses related to the ministry they are involved with.  Vilvanio and Lucimara have a real heart for people, especially youth, and are seeking to show Christ's love by helping people emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Vision And Annual Strategy

Vilvanio and Lucimara's aims are:
To evangelise the lost, especially youth
For growth, both spiritually and numerically, of the church
To train and equip the people to work with children and adolescents
To renovate and increase the physical space of the church to meet the community with educational and cultural activities because there is nothing like that in the city.  People just work and study and have nothing else to do.  Many people suffer from depression and suicide is high.
