Emely's Orphans - Kalulushi
Orphans & Vulnerable Children,
Training / Education
($3,000 - $7,999)Partnership Overview
![]() |
| Emely & Oliver Mulenga, leading the team |
Emely Mulenga and some of her friends became concerned at the number of kids that were living on the streets of Kalulushi, a town on the Copperbelt of Zambia. Emely's Orphanage Centre presently cares for about 70 orphaned and vulnerable children, some of whom used to live on the streets. Currently the money given from Bright Hope World is assisting these children with feeding, schooling and spiritual input.
History of Partnership
Emely's Orphanage Centre in Kalulushi, Zambia was officially registered as an Orphanage Centre on the 7th August 2001. However, the organisation originally started in 1999. The main emphasis at the time was to cut across issues of poverty among orphans and promote Christian principles.
Emely and three of her friends became concerned at the number of kids that were living on the streets of their town so they started to get them together and care for them. Oliver and Emely Mulenga are a strategic couple and we currently support Oliver in his work as an evangelist. Please go to ZAM04 for more information on this couple.
Bright Hope World have been working with Emely on this project since 2004.
Beneficiaries

| Always time for a game |
Presently there are 70 vulnerable children who are benefiting from the money sent by Bright Hope World. Every Saturday morning the children are fed. Two teachers come in and assist the children with extra tutoring, this all takes place in the front yard of the Mulenga’s house. The children’s school fees are being paid in full and they also receive books, shoes, uniforms and bags.
The women who assist Emely also provide Bible lessons for the children.
What We Like About The Partnership
Emely and Oliver are trustworthy and faithful workers. Emely took the initiative and saw a growing need amongst the children in Kalulushi in the late 90’s and has been working for their benefit ever since. They keep a watchful eye on the progress of the children and have their best interests in mind when making decisions about the project.

Leadership Profile

Other People Involved
There are three other local ladies who assist Emely in the work of the orphaned children. They are Matilda, Maureen and Iris.
Recently two teachers have been helping with the tutoring of the children. They feel that the programme is going well and enjoy helping. They struggle financially to transport themselves to and from the project. They work in a private school but would prefer to be doing tutoring with the orphaned children in a paid position. One of the teachers would like to live in Kalulushi also but this is difficult as houses for rent are scarce. The teachers names are Mr Chalwe and Mr Chabu.
Vision And Annual Strategy
Additional funding will need to be raised to help support full time teachers.
There is currently a micro-enterprise business to help support the orphan community. It is a grinding mill and is currently making a small profit. Oliver initiated this venture and believes it is still a great benefit to the surrounding community.
Oliver and Emely would also like to provide food supplements to the children who are HIV positive.
There are a few older boys about to finish school and have no prospect of further education. It would be beneficial to set up skills training for boys who will be leaving school.
Annual Budget
The annual budget here is US$9,350. This helps cover the food costs for a meal at weekends, medical costs and school costs (school fees, uniforms, school bags, stationery) for the 70 children.
This partnership is currently financially supported by Bright Hope Australia and a family in New Zealand.
