Partnership Overview

Oliver Mulenga is an entrepreneur, church planter and evangelist. He has established his own block making business as well as the other business activities. BHW supports him and his family to enable him to create resources for the kingdom of God.

History Of Partnership

Oliver and his wife Emely have been serving the Lord in the town of Kalulushi for more than 20 years. He visits churches, has been involved in a number of church plants in Kitwe town and rural areas and has overseen a number of partnerships. Emely runs an orphan care programme we support and cares for many children. From their business they sponsor students to either Samfya Bible School or GLO, Oliver is a Board member of both.

After visiting them in 2001, it was decided they were key people and we would assist them with a small amount of regular support to supplement their incomes so it would free them a little to do the ministry.

In recent years they have established a grinding mill and oversee it, opened a little shop which has just closed down and are currently developing a new church and orphan care ministry in a town called Lufwanyama, 70km into the bush from Kalulushi.

Oliver and Emely are the main beneficiaries but they are the type of couple who share all they have with others.

The key nature of this couple and the fact they are so passionate about ministry. Their many years of faithful service, despite a lot of personal attacks from the Christian establishment.

ZAM09a and b are ministries to orphans and street kids that Emely is in charge of.
ZAM22 is a new partnership that is being developed with Oliver and Emely.

Key People

Leadership Profile

Oliver and Emely were trained by the BHW Field Director back in the mid 80s. Oliver is a colourful character and at that time had been involved in politics. After leaving training they shifted to the Kalulushi area and assisted with the development of a number of small churches and mentor a number of families. Many of them are now in ministry.

In the 90's they shifted into Kalulushi and started a block making business from which they have gained a living, supported themselves in ministry and assisted others to go for training. Along the way they have helped many people.

Every Saturday morning 50 or so children come to their home for a meal, games, educational coaching and spiritual input.

Vision And Annual Strategy

Some of the existing ministries are coming to an end and Oliver especially will be concentrating on the development of ZAM22. This is potentially quite a large opportunity with both orphan care and church development. One of the young men he sent to Samfya Bible School is leading this development, especially the church side of it.

Annual Budget

The annual budget is $US1,320 per year. This equates to $US100 per month and is sent quarterly.

Cobe Mwamba at Mulenga's house

Here are a couple of stories of children who come to the Saturday morning programme at Oliver and Emely's house.

Cobe (pronounced Cho-bee) Mwamba
Grade: 6   Age: 11
Cobe attends Masamba primary school. His favourite subject is mathematics. When he grows up Cobe wants to be a pastor. Cobe is a double orphan who stays with his grandmother. There are five people living in his house. They manage to eat three times a day. They have a garden that grows vegetables and banana’s to eat. His grandmother does not have a job but his grandfather sells clothes.

Cobe likes to read in his spare time. He just reads his school notes because there are no other books to read. He also loves to play football with his friends. One of his problems is that he lacks clothes and blankets.
Cobe and his family attend the Anglican church where he likes to pray to God.

Ennes Kilambe
Grade: 4   Age: 9
Ennes attends Mutobu Basic School. She enjoys attending school because she wants to be educated. Her favourite subject is English. When she grows up she wants to be able to look after her mother and be a doctor.

Ennes' father has passed away and she lives with her mother. Her mother does not have a job and stays home to look after her younger brother. She is able to sell scones sometimes.

Ennes has five friends who all like to play netball and volleyball. Ennes also enjoys coming to Emely's on Saturday because she likes to learn about God and get tutoring for school. She also appreciates the help she gets to pay for school.

Ennes says that there are many problems in Kalulushi. Some girls her age do not go to school and hang around the bus station selling or drinking beer. Ennes says she has no worries except she does not like eggplant or social studies.

Interviewer's comments:  Ennes was a delightful girl to interview. She had lots of spirit and spunk. She had a sincere desire to help her mother and give to others.
